The Business of Translation

To translate is to live in a house built with words, where each language is a different room, and never get the doors mixed up, stumble over the rugs, fall down the stairs or look for the kitchen and somehow end up in the garage; to translate means to walk along corridors and halls in the right direction, even in the dark, and to know where to find every switch, just in case; to translate, one must be able to be in two different places at the same time.
